Cornwall - South West England
Went to Cornwall on the w/e of the 10/11, to pick up an antique Edwardian chair. Oh yes, I've found a new pasttime, antiquing is so much more rewarding in England, for the mere fact that you can get old stuff!! :)
Stayed in a B&B which was a converted convent, and spent the day at Pendennis castle in Falmouth, Cornwall. The castle has been defending Britain's coasts for 5 centuries & has seen action during the Civil War in C17th, Wars with Spain & France in the C18th and both World War I & II in the C20th.
It is one of the best preserved castles we have seen - with the fortress preserving areas such as war shelter, battery observation post, artillery barracks, basement kitchen, gun rooms etc. Walking through the castle, really gives you a sense of how it must have been during battle!
